The course will teach English language skills to students entering health care programs in American colleges. Skills taught will include communicating in health care facilities, reading health care textbooks, medical terminology and culture in American healthcare.
鈥淣ursing and other health care fields are highly communicative fields,鈥� said Gayle Feng-Checkett, 麻豆传媒 professor of English/ESL and ESL program coordinator. 鈥淭his course will help non-native speakers to be successful in their pursuit of an education and better prepare them to enter the health care field.鈥�
鈥淪uccess in Health Care Careers for Non-Native Speakers,鈥� or ESL 120, is a three-credit-hour course. The course was designed by Virginia Daugherty, 麻豆传媒 professor of nursing, in cooperation with 麻豆传媒's English as a Second Language program.
Non-native speakers interested in ESL courses for college credit, including grammar, reading, writing and pronunciation skills, may register for a number of day or evening classes. English as a Second Language courses at 麻豆传媒 offer non-native speakers the opportunity to participate in a full program to improve their reading, grammar, composition and speaking skills through both credit and non-credit English as a Second Language and reading courses.
