Director Lonna Wilke will hold open auditions at 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Dec. 6-7, in Room 108 of the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building on the 麻豆传媒 campus in Cottleville. Callbacks will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the same location. Center Stage Theatre invites 麻豆传媒 students and community residents to audition. Parts are available for four men and three women. There are no parts available for children.

Co-written by Ashton Jaymz, former 麻豆传媒 student, in collaboration with professional playwrights Richard Haase and Anthony Charles Kieber, 鈥淔our Room Asylum鈥 is a manifestation of original work spawned from literary adaptation and collaborative writing. A new course offered by the 麻豆传媒 English Department explores adaptations in dramatic literature. After studying the tradition and practice of adaptation, members of the class will engage in staged readings and acting workshops. The process culminates with this production. A centerpiece of the course will be the psychological dramas of 鈥淔our Room Asylum,鈥 which include the following one acts:

  • Healthcare,鈥 by Jaymz and Haase, based on 鈥淒ialogue Between a Priest and a Dying Man鈥 by The Marquis de Sade.
  • The Monster,鈥 by Haase and Kieber, based on the play, 鈥淭he Stronger,鈥 by August Strindberg.
  • Interrogation,鈥 by Haase, based on 鈥淭he Grand Inquisitor鈥 from the novel, 鈥淭he Brothers Karamazov,鈥 by Fyodor Dostoevsky and on the apocryphal text, 鈥淭he Gospel of Thomas.鈥
  • The Tea Party,鈥 by Haase and Jaymz, based on the play, 鈥淢iss Julie,鈥 by August Stindberg.

鈥淔our Room Asylum鈥 will be performed in the theater of the Fine Arts Building at 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, April 13-16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17.
