鈥淢ystic Iran: The Unseen World,鈥� Film Showing
The film 鈥淢ystic Iran: The Unseen World鈥� will be shown at noon Monday, March 4, in the SSB auditorium. The film documents a modern woman's mystical journey deep into the heart of her native country, Iran, in search of spiritual rites and rituals hidden for centuries. Despite risking confiscation of filming equipment and traffickers at the border of Iraq, documentary filmmaker, Aryana Farshad, gained access to underground locations and religious ceremonies that have never been captured on film.

Aryana Farshad, 鈥淢ystic Iran: The Unseen World鈥� filmmaker, will be speaking at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in the SSB auditorium. Farshad started work as a documentary editor in France, continuing in Iran, where she received the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Award for editing 鈥淭he Emigrant Birds鈥� and worked with award-winning Iranian and European filmmakers, including the post-production at major studios, including MGM and Columbia Pictures, while developing her own projects.
Kate Nash, Speaker
Kate Nash will speak about the topic 鈥淔rom Picketing to Pornography - The Freedoms and Limitations of Student Speech at Public Colleges鈥� at noon Wednesday, March 6, in the SSB auditorium.
Lunchtime Trivia
Trivia will be held during lunch in the Plaza Bistro at noon Wednesday, March 13.
鈥淗alf the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide,鈥� Film Showing
The film 鈥淗alf the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide鈥� will be shown from 9-10 a.m. Monday-Thursday, March 11-14. This four-hour television series is a passionate call to arms, urging us not only to bear witness to the plights of the world's women, but also to help to transform their oppression into opportunity. The videos will be running on a continuous loop in both the SSB lobby as well as in Associate Professor Kathleen Sanker's office in the Visual Arts Building. The campus community is invited to drop by and watch. This film is presented with funds from the 麻豆传媒 Foundation.
Rebeca Navarro-McKelvey, Speaker
Rebeca Navarro will speak about 鈥淭he Land of Unexpected Dreams鈥� at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the SSB auditorium. Navarro-McKelvey, chief legal counsel for the St. Charles County Juvenile Office, will share her experience as Nicaraguan immigrant growing up in Central Missouri in the 1980s and the challenges and opportunities that existed then and continue to exist for all people trying to forge a new life in a new place.
鈥淗alf the Sky,鈥� Panel Discussion
Panel members of faculty, staff and students will discuss 鈥淗alf the Sky鈥� at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the SSB auditorium. Panel members are still to be determined. Interested parties may contact, ksanker@stchas.edu.
Between the Covers Book Club
Between the Covers Book Club is an 麻豆传媒-wide book club. The March meeting will be at noon Wednesday, April 3, in the Private Dining Room. Participants get together to hang out, eat and discuss books that cover a wide range of interests. This month's book is 鈥淗alf the Sky.鈥�
