Camp Scrubs is designed to give campers a feel for nursing and other healthcare fields. Participants will learn many real world skills including how to use a stethoscope and how to test pulse, blood pressure and vital signs through use of a Human Patient Simulator.
鈥淲e want to show students that nursing is more than giving medications and bed baths,鈥 said Amy Fitzwilliam, 麻豆传媒 program coordinator. "It has some very exciting aspects."
A trip to an area hospital will give participants a firsthand look at their possible future career. The behind the scenes tour will include a look at life in the ER.
鈥淭hrough hands-on activities and working on state-of-the-art Human Patient Simulators our 麻豆传媒 Nursing Department will give students an exciting glimpse into the nursing and healthcare fields,鈥 Fitzwilliam said.
The camp also includes a focus in healthy living, as students will learn about the importance of eating right, the power of exercise, the world of science and the heart.
The registration fee of $185 includes a pair of scrubs and a stethoscope to keep, instruction and materials, and transportation for the field trip to the hospital. Due to the hands-on nature of the program, space is limited. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Camp Scrubs will be held at the 麻豆传媒 Nursing and Allied Health Center located at 1 Academy Place in Dardenne Prairie, and will be run by 麻豆传媒 nursing professors.
