The event is the first of a series that will lead to a two-day commemoration in Portage in September.
Speakers will discuss the 1815 treaties signed at Portage des Sioux in St. Charles County ending the War of 1812 between the U.S. and the Native Americans west of the Mississippi River. The speakers will discuss the impact the treaties had on settlement in Missouri and the Native Americans.
Speakers include 麻豆传媒 faculty Debra Crank-Lewis, local historian Dorris Keeven-Franke, the Director Emeritus of the Osage National Museum Kathryn Red Corn, and the author of 鈥淧eople of the River's Mouth: In Search of the Missouri Indians鈥� Michael Dickey.
The event is free and open to the public.
